 Pabna District, Bangladesh :

Pabna  district is located in the north western part of Bangladesh.. It is under Rajshahi Division. Tt was established in 1832.  The name Pabna might be derived from Pundra or Poondrobordhon civilization. The region was ruled by Gangaridhi, Maurja, Gupta, Paul, Sen etc dynasties. The region came under Muslim rule in 1205. From 1576 to 1727, 29 rulers ruled the region on behalf of Muhal dynasty. During the British East India Company period, Pabna district was formed as a separate district in 1828. The boundary of Pabna district was reformed in many times. After the liberation of Bangladesh, greater Pabna district was divided into two districts named Pabna and Sirajganj in 1984. The Geo position of the district is between 24˚03’ to 24˚12’ North latitudes and between 89˚10’ to 89˚25’east longitude.

Administration :
There is a 450-bed mental hospital, second oldest in Indian Subcontinent. Ishwardi is one of the important railway junctions of the North Bengal as well as in Bangladesh.  There is an airport at Iswardi which has twice weekly air services to Dhaka Airport. District’s town consists of fifteen (15) wards and thirty four (34) Mahallas. It has an area of 18.64 square kilometer. District was established in 1832. The district consists of eight (8) municipalities, 81 wards, 191 mahallas, nine (9) upazilas, 72 union parishads, 1321 mouzas and 1562 villages.Pabna district is located in the north western part of Bangladesh.
